Novacel in a few numbers…
by Mr. Roger Düning, President
Novacel Ophthalmique is part of the big players in the French market. Based in Chateau-Thierry, close to Paris, and with a team of 500 people, we commercialize five million lenses per year. We offer a wide range of products, following scrupulously the flow of the market trends (implementation of the free-form technology, e.g.). As the only company to answer to all technical needs of the optician, we propose lenses of course, but also materials for the opticians (in collaboration with Breitfeld & Schlieckert); without taking into account the success of our contactology department for the last three years (+41% in 2011).
Our leitmotiv “La performance fabriquée en France” (the performance made in France) clearly evokes our specificity on the market. Of course, a growing part of our customers are sensitive to this argument, but besides I am deeply convinced that this choice to manufacture in Europe will be an advantage in the long term. To carry out these plans, we must bet on automation of our manufacturing process in order to have competitive cost prices compared to other regions in the world.
But above all, I would like to insist on another of Novacel’s strengths: our Service, our reactivity to optimize the delivery times, the notion of advice or of technical expertise (remote edging e.g.)… In brief, Novacel offers Service in its most global meaning.
«The partnership with Automation & Robotics is our best asset to remain faithful to our policies.»
The advantages of the automatic inspection of lenses
By Roberto D’Agostino, Production and Quality Manager
In your opinion, Mr. D’agostino, what are the main advantages of the automatic inspection of the ophthalmic lens?
At Novacel, we perform a systematic control of the lenses at each step of the manufacturing process. For the semi- finished, we make a sampling inspection thanks to a Focovision SR-2. After surfacing, the cosmetic aspect and the power are checked. And for the final inspection, the lenses pass through the Rob Control equipment where the lenses are checked again to avoid any right/left inversion, printed and brought to our automatic packaging unit. This kind of layout permits us to smooth our production flow and to dedicate the operators to other higher valued tasks.
Another advantage of automatic solutions is of course to avoid any human errors. The most important point for us is the customer satisfaction; and a statistically insignificant number of returns from the opticians proves it!
The implementation of this process, based on validated quality procedures, allowed us to get the ISO 9001 2008 certification.
