Robert W. Pech founded the company in 1982 within the heartland of America in Sioux City, Iowa. He received his first order before he had any printed forms. His initial customer wrote down an order for a pair of lenses on a cardboard box top.
That type of flexibility in dealing with customers has been one of the driving forces behind the success of Pech Optical. Another key driver has been their dedication to achieving manufacturing efficiency and accuracy through the use of innovative lens processing technology.
Integrating automation in their lab has been of primary concern since their beginning and Pech recognized immediately how the RobControl could help them. “We want people to do things in the lab that only people can do” said Doug Pech President of Pech Optical. “The RobControl for Blocking can perform the human tasks instead of our operators so they can be assigned other critical jobs. The Rob Control for Blocking also performs measurements with an objectivity we cannot achieve with operators” he continued.
“One thing we have also noticed is that we optimized the production capability of the automated edgers since the workflow from the RobControl has been so consistent” noted Gerald Koolstra, Operations Manager. “It is technology that definitely has a place here at Pech Optical and will play a key role in our future” he added.
Pech Optical’s modern 50,000 square foot (4,645 sq meters) facility houses a complete AR coating laboratory, automated digital surfacing- including free-form, automated edging and a computer controlled stock room. Designed to provide the most advanced products efficiently and accurately to their customers this family owned, independent laboratory is poised to meet the challenges of the future.
