Could you briefly describe Rodenstock’s activity?
The Rodenstock brand stands for technologically demanding products of exceptional quality. At Rodenstock we constantly ask ourselves: how can we make wearing spectacles even more pleasant, lighter, simpler and more comfortable? This attitude gives rise to innovative product solutions - which meet demands for the highest precision.
Activity means for us development of new products.
Klatovy is a growing lab. Could you please explain why automation is so important, even in Eastern Europe, where labour costs are still lower than Germany?
Advantage of automation compared to manual control?
There are processes which do not surely run manually. One of that is the metrology. We know that a measurement by hand leads to more mistakes than an automatic process.
With a good measurement technology it is also possible to check entire manufacturing process.
The Customer does not excuse a wrong delivery. That means it is very important that every lens is checked after the coating process. We call it check of identification.
Rodenstock is expertise of 130 years in the field of optics. We saw a fast evolution of metrology in the optics in the last years. Here are mentioned the measurement of thickness without contact or P-POS.
That was a great help for products like individualised lenses and high-performance 2-component material
Did A&R equipments help you to increase the satisfaction of your customers?
Impression FreeSign® is the only progressive lens that takes into account not only the individual parameters but also the wearer‘s individual vision demands.
Free positioning of the design points for vision zones”near“,”intermediate“and”far“. In the case of check in our production line means that the automatic control and pad printing machine have to find all positions exactly. Only with a high-level measurement technology we can supply top-quality lenses with spontaneous compatibility, optically perfection and very large vision zones.
What’s your conclusion?
In conclusion one can say that the measurement by hand is slow, unsure and expensive in a modern manufacturing.
We see an essential component for the manufacturing of individually optimised lenses in the technique by Automation & Robotics.
